Strategic decision support for ICVFX

LED HUB invites you to a two-day seminar focusing on virtual production (VP) and decision support for in-camera visual effects (ICVFX). Whilst previous initiatives have focused on the technology and application of the tools, this seminar provides a practical framework for assessing ICVFX as a holistic production strategy. Here, you will learn to make well-informed choices throughout the process and to communicate effectively across creative and technical teams.

Virtual production is no longer a new technology. It is a strategic production tool, and filmmakers must understand when it adds value, when it does not, and how it changes production planning, budgeting and risk.

The seminar will be led by Dani Bellar Pilukas, Virtual Production Producer and Head of Creative Technology. She has extensive experience in immersive media, film and TV. Pilukas has overseen virtual production on major international hits such as "Fallout" (season 2), "House of the Dragon" and "Masters of the Air". Previously, she worked at Walt Disney Imagineering on projects such as "Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge", "Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance" and other major Disney attractions. She now runs Bellar Pilukas Collective, where she advises studios and filmmakers worldwide.

Erik Weaver is an Emmy-nominated producer, applied researcher, and founder and Chairman of the Entertainment Technology Center (ETC) at USC's R&D Grant Program, the industry's largest short film award dedicated to advancing emerging production technologies. As Principal of AI & Emergent Media at ETC, he leads research at the intersection of virtual production, cloud workflows, and AI-powered filmmaking. Under his leadership, ETC has produced a series of pioneering films, including "ChickaBOOM", a hybrid AI animated short that premiered at Tribeca Festival; "Pathways", which explores hybrid AI and live-action production workflows; and "The Bends", a fully generative AI film that was recorded back to 35mm film to explore the convergence of AI and traditional cinema. Most recently, ETC launched "Terrarium", bringing together years of R&D into a unified hybrid production pipeline spanning development through final delivery. His work focuses on building scalable, studio-ready AI workflows that preserve creative intent while empowering filmmakers with the next generation of production technology.

Jørgen Stangebye Larsen is a production designer working across Scandinavian and international cinema. His first feature was Joachim Trier’s "Oslo, August 31st". In 2025, he reunited with Trier to design "Sentimental Value", winner of the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival and the Academy Awards for Best International Feature Film. Jørgen has designed a wide range of films, from large-scale genre productions such as "The Burning Sea" and "The Quake," to intimate art-house projects like Eskil Vogt’s "Blind". His credits also include Hans Petter Moland’s "Absolution" and "Cold Pursuit," as well as the Norwegian films "Hope" and "Out Stealing Horses". He has been nominated several times for the Amanda Award and won the award for his design on "Sentimental Value". Jørgen is pursuing a PhD in Artistic Research at The Norwegian Film School / Inland University of Applied Sciences.

Eivind Holmboe originally trained as an advertising professional and has worked as both a creative and a creative director at David & Goliath and Deutsch in Los Angeles, as well as at Leo Burnett’s Spain office. Holmboe has directed commercials for clients such as McDonald’s, Norwegian, Audi, Coca-Cola, and Budweiser. He has won awards at the Clio Awards, NY Festivals, Cannes, and Eurobest, and has also won numerous awards for the short film “Tooth for an Eye.” Eivind worked as a second-unit director on the Oscar-nominated film “Diente por ojo” (Society of the Snow). He is also the creator of NRK’s drama-comedy series “Glory Days”.

Espen PA Lervaag works as a Creative Producer at the production company Anagram, where he is responsible for developing new comedy and drama projects for film and TV. Espen is a versatile artist who also works as a writer, comedian, and actor. He is the creator and lead actor of the Norwegian TV series "Maniac". He was nominated for a Golden Nymph Award in the category “Outstanding Actor in a Comedy TV Series” at the 2016 Monte-Carlo Television Festival.

Industry meeting: Where film meets the future

During the Kulturytring festival, we invite you to an industry meeting organised by LED HUB, the Norwegian Producers Association Virke, the Norwegian Film Makers Association, the Viken Film Centre and the Norwegian Film School.

The visual industry is in the midst of a technological revolution. Drammen is home to Norway's first research-based studio for virtual production. Join us as we look to the future and demonstrate the studio's potential when the film industry and cultural figures come together for an evening of informal mingling, food and drink.

Jørgen Stangebye Larsen, a production designer currently working on the films Sentimental Value (directed by Joachim Trier) and Absolution (directed by Hans Petter Moland), talks about his work with virtual production in key scenes. For his PhD at the Norwegian Film School (INN), he is exploring how technology can open up new ways of making films where physical and digital environments merge. LED HUB is a key partner in his research.

This is an introductory course aimed specifically at children and young people. Virtual production has paved the way for a forward-looking and sustainable tool in visual media. It is revolutionising storytelling, fostering interdisciplinary skills and inspiring collaboration on creative and technical challenges. It enables cost savings and reduces the carbon footprint, contributing to an environmentally friendly alternative in the industry. Virtual production has seen explosive growth internationally, but the demand for skilled workers is lagging behind. This creates exciting opportunities for the media professionals of the future and the media education of tomorrow.

Particularly suitable for school classes in subjects such as: media and communication, information technology, media production, photography, game technology, 3D design, animation, electronics, IT, data and technology.

Two-day introduction course to Virtual Production

This introductory course is aimed at all disciplines within the professional film and television industry. The aim is to give participants a basic understanding of how production works in a Virtual Production environment. The course is open to 12 participants and will focus on essential VP technology tools, workflows and hands-on experience through practical exercises in a LED Volume.

VP basics, terminology and workflow
Review and overview of the VP scene
Unreal Engine basics
LED volume demonstration
Camera and tracking
Set design and lighting in VP

Day 2

Preparation of LED Volume
Preparation and execution of practical exercises

The date is 18th - 19th of January and will be held in Drammen, Norway.

The course has an excess of NOK 1.200,- and includes lunch.

Demonstration of Virtuell Produksjon in a LED Volume

This demonstration provides a basic introduction to the tools and features of working with LED Volume. The main target audience is film and TV production professionals.

The demonstration is free of charge and takes place on an ongoing basis. Please contact us for further information.
